how do you decide what pattern or colors of material to use for placemats or runners if you don't remember what colors they have in there home or they have changed the colors since you last seen them? do you make something with what you like or does it really matter? i am having a tough time deciding on what to do.

How about make it from fabrics that you think they will like??

Make it pretty, and they will surely love it.

I agree with Cathe-- everyone loves to decorate for holidays

Yes, but keep in mind if this is a gift FOR Christmas, are they going to have to wait an entire year to use it? I totally don't mean that to sound mean or like I'm being a snob. you know what I mean?

I am making a wall hanging and a table topper plus place mats as Christmas gifts. Since my friends are out of town I send it the beginning of December and ask them to PLEASE OPEN BEFORE Christmas. I've been doing this for a while now and it seems to work well for all concerned.

thanks everyone. one of the gifts is for my mil. the thing with her is, her house is small and she only puts up a tabletop tree. she has a small 2 chair table in the kitchen. she has a small kitchen. when she has company for the holiday dinners everyone gathers in the basement. i was thinking if she has any room she has room for coasters. (holiday or everyday). and for table runners her tv and bedroom dresser is the only thing long enough for the runners. so being this late for the holidays i wanted to make something quick. as for my sil and neice they decorate that is no problem. for next year i want to make her a quilt. i am not a fast quilter and am already working on somethings for others. that is why i am looking for quick and easy projects right now.

The quilt as you go runner we made in class here a couple of weeks ago is the fastest runner I've ever made. It's on a link here in the main page.

Selecting colors for someone who's home you don't remember the colors favored.......try using some neutral tone on tone prints. That way they could use them all year long.

Happy Quilting,
Sharon
