Re-sizing a Pattern
 

Not sure if this is even possible or not...

There is a 6 1/2" pattern on the 'net that I want, but I need it to print out at 8".....is it possible to do something in my printer or scanner settings to get that to happen?

There probably is a way, but I don't know it. When I want something bigger, I print out the original and then enlarge it by copying it until I get it the right size. Office Depot or Staples could help you too. What is the pattern? I might could draw it out in EQ as an 8" block.

If it is a paper pieced pattern that finishes at 6 1/2", you should get 8" by printing at 123% (if it has 1/4" outside seam markings on the pp sections, these would need to be cut at 1/4" as the enlargement would make them too big). If it is a 6" finished pp pattern that is shown with 1/4" outside seams, enlarge it by printing at 133% (same as above on reducing the seam to actual 1/4" on the enlarged pattern).

If it is a pattern that creates a regularly pieced block with an unfinished size of 7" (6 1/2" finished) or a 6 1/2" unfinished (6" finished) and you need to refigure each section; that will take more calculating.

all patterns can be resized... it just depends whether the new size will have easily cuttable pieces. if it is paper pieced, that eliminates that problem.

I printed it at 123% and it went off the page. I guess I can just draw in what is missing on a taped-on piece of paper?

I scan the original into my computer then open it with my Adobe Photo program and "Image/Resize" it. Had a problem with downloaded .pdf files, but find that if I "insert" the picture into a Word document, I could add rulers to the sides of the document and adjust the size that way.

If not fitting on your page, can you "copy" it, then crop with scissors to be able to fit?

I would fold the original printed pattern in half. Then copy each half, enlarging it to 123%, then tape the 2 new pieces together.
