I read here recently a thread re a supreme slider. I researched it and thought it quite pricey, ( $58. ) so I went into a fabric shop yesterday - not a quilt shop, mostly curtain and upholstery and asked if the had a heavy gauge vinyl. They did and I bought 1/2 metre and IT WORKS LIKE A DREAM !!!!!! It is 50+" wide, so I have lots spare.
I have a Horn sewing cabinet and the edge is very square and when you are sewing the 3 layers of a quilt together the edge
made the quilt drag, NOW it is sliding over this edge with no problem.
IT COST ME approx $2.46 --- bargain, I am happy !!!!

Great idea! How do you keep the vinyl from sliding around on the sewing machine?

I have a Horn sewing cabinet and there is a perspex insert that slots in between the cabinet and the machine. The vinyl just adheres to it, and so it doesn't move !!

I have just rung the shop and I am afraid she couldn't tell me wt. I would think it is just slightly thinner than a raincover for a childs buggy. Hope that helps ! I think they sell it as a wipe clean table cover !

Double sided tape will do it.

I also have used silicone sheets designed for lining ovens - they work a dream too, and a loads cheaper than anything sold for quilters.
