Could be that the popped seams are because the berber is stretchy and the cotton quilt top is not.
We used to make a lot of blankets with regular fleece on one side and berber on the other. Then run it through the blanket stitch machine. But we can't find a source for berber any more. |

I think the serpentine stitch is too tight for heavier fabrics. May have a lot of breakage and/or puckering.
