Ready to quilt, but how?

I am stumped. I'm a novice at FMQ, so how would you recommend I quilt this small table runner?[ATTACH=CONFIG]296105[/ATTACH]

My first suggestion is if your a novice at FMQ is to practice more until you are more comfortable with it before you quilt the actual top. It's a very pretty piece, and pieced well too!!
So get some scraps out and start playing with FMQ! Practice the same stitch over and over and over until it's in your "muscle memory" and becomes 2nd nature to just "do it". Once you have that one stitch down pat, then you can practice another (providing you need to learn two immediately). As for quilting that lovely topper ... I would stiple the light fabric and SID outline the dark. Or visa versa. |

You have to jump in and start someplace. Here's a very very rough sketch of an idea. Flower petals within the star. If you are new draw it with chalk before stitching so that you have lines to follow. Draw a pedal on paper when you get it just right transfer it to heavy poster board. Cut it out and use it as a template so that you get all the pedals consistant. SID around the stars then cross hatch the arrows around the stars. You could do any kind of fill in the area around the stars but crosshatching straight lines would be easy if you are new to FMQ.

I agree.....love the quilt, very pretty.....I would stipple in the light areas with light thread and the flower design in the star with a green......I try to follow this advice...KISS it (keep it simple stupid) and be done with it.....simple quilting will make it much easier and won't take away from the quilt itself. |
i'm sure you need it done soon, so being a novice myself i'I'd stitch 1/4" on each side of the lines. It's a great look.
