Reason for colorful backs.
I was watching a commercial for St Jude's. Young girl laying under white blanket, white sheet, and white pillow case. And she's bald. She needs a quilt to brighten up the room. So I decided two make my quilts two sided. Lots of color to help someone thru a difficult time.

Great Idea! Color brightens ones spirits.

Colourful, busy backs also make any quilting error hard to see.

Awesome idea!

I'm a firm believer that the back of a quilt should be as pretty as the top side.

Lots of great ideas. I like pretty backs too.

I was at my in-laws house asking for some advice on quilting issue and had brought a few to show off (because I'm really still in kindergarten). I usually make a pieced back because I'm cheap ... And the nonquilters we're oohing as much over the back as the front. Just made.one.for.a.cousin that's going out to the longarm lady today/tomorrow. Pieced with voile (a very silky cotton) that I'm calling "La Vie Boheme"
So yeah - piece that back. And then after quilting, see if the trimming creates enough for your binding. "Use it up, wear it out. Make it do or do without." |
