This is my story and I am sticking to it!

My stash is jammmmmmed into plastic totes so that the bright morning sunlight that pours in the east facing window won't fade the spines of all those "could be" neatly folded and stored fabrics. This way when I shuffle through the bins I am actually protecting my fabrics!

What's your story!?

humbird 04-27-2010 06:06 AM

I like your story and it makes perfect sense!

Fabric only stays organized until you start a project. If I wanted a neat stash I would have to give up sewing. Not gonna happen.

My stash is a mess because every time I search through it, I find fabrics I forgot I had and is like new all over again.

My excuse for mine being in the bin is because the cats will sleep on them. I'd LOVE to be organized and have the ability to display them.......but that's not going to happen (me??? organized????? ROLMBO!!!!)

these all sound good to me

seriously - even though I keep my fabrics in what I thought were protected areas - out of direct sunlight, etc - I've had fade lines on the folds of a few of my fabrics

might be a good idea to refold the fabric every couple of years

although in some people's cases, that's a month away from doing something else with it

Amen to that!!!

I have few things left in tubs only because I have no place to put them. I have my cabinets facing away from the sun light so they won't fade. I also have some bolts(I hate to admit this) sitting on top of one cabinet that are so covered in dust that it protects it from the light. My sewing area was nice and neat til I decided to make some new quilts now it is a mess.

My fabric stash is in bins in the closet with the doors shut when I'm not going through it to find project requirements. Most of the time, there is fabric on the shelves and on top of other bins, but if I'm not in that room going through the stash, the closet doors are kept closed - I've lost too much fabric keeping it out in the open so I can glance at it any old time!

I am a kind and caring person and I never want my friends and family to feel badly about themselves. In fact, I always want them to be able to look at my stash (or kitchen or livingroom, etc.) and be able to feel GOOD about themselves. I want them to be able to think, "Wow, I thought my stash (home) was a mess, but compared to this, I'm doing great!". This is a sacrifice I gladly make for my friends and family because I care about them so very much.

And that's MY story and I'm sticking to it!!

Just wait til that fabric bug hits and all you want to buy, buy, buy.

Just makes it easier to get more, knowing it can fit in some nook or crannie somewhere.

You are so funny. I'm using your excuse for my fabric being the way it is.

debbieumphress 04-29-2010 06:39 AM

I clean my sewing room, line the fbarics up just fine, assort by color, etc. I have bins, baskets, three walls of shelves away from the sun, an 18 x 18 ft roonabd how nice,.......oops then I have to pull fabrics for a project, fabrics for a swap, tops for Project Linus nad Quilt for Kids, then retreats, sewing bees.....and Wallah....back to "can;t find the table, have to climb over the fabric on the floor, now where was that????/It's all a vicious cycle. But when I go to clean again, it's like "here it is", Forgot I had that. Kind of keeps the stash in your mind. LOL
Neat quilters have too much time on their hands.
