I was reading the local ads today and saw an ad for football receiver's gloves which got me to thinking about the possibility of using them for FMQ. The ad says they are lightweight and breathable. I really haven't even seen a pair of these up close but DH tells me they are tacky on the palms. Anyone seen these or have any personal experience with using them for FMQ? Ann in TN

I use garden gloves with the little rubber dots on them. Works great and they are cheap

The quilting gloves work well, but they have rubberized fingers. That makes it a lot easier to guide the quilt. I use the cheap garden gloves from Wal-Mart.

Machingers gloves is what I found to be the best machine quilting gloves they're lightweight, affordable, and comfortable enough to wear all day.You can also hand sew with these gloves. What a difference they make...really!

I would think the football one's would be more expensive.

Same here.

I've never heard of those. I've tried a couple of different garden gloves and didn't like them because they were too hot and didn't fit well. I LOVE my Machingers and they were well worth the $9 I paid. I use them every time I quilt.

you can get them for 6.00 on Amazon.

I use ones called "Machingers" that are made by company
out in Salt Lake City. www.quilterstouch.com
They are very thin and have sticky ends where y0u touch the fabric. They come in various sizes and fit your hand, well like a fine glove. Great Product, and about $8 per pair if I remember.
I buy a bunch of them at one time so I always have a pair when one wears out.

I saw that, but it was also $5 shipping. I bought mine at the Viking store inside of Joann's.

I do have a pair of those but my hand perspire so badly when I wear them. Also since I can find nothing in the area where I live I have to order online and there is the added shipping cost. Didn't know the FMQ gloves were made in SLC. Our son lives there and perhaps I can find them reasonably while we are there for Christmas. Anywhere specifically that you find them reasonably?

I also use the rubberized garden gloves on the odd occasion I do MQ'ing. No problem with sweating as the back size is not rubberized. And dirt (no pun intended) cheap.

Many like the gloves. I can't seem to use them successfully, probably just never worked with them
I use
Tacky Fingers
Glycerine
fingers cut from yellow dishwashing gloves.

The cheap garden gloves at the Dollar Store or the good ones from JoAnn with the coupon.

Stitchnripper 09-06-2011 05:08 AM

I tried everything, from several versions of garden gloves, to Fons and Porter, to rubber fingers from the stationary store, rubber glove tips, and then Machingers which I like the best.
