Recognize this pattern?

This quilt has been in my husbands family for a few generations - I get it out every year to decorate for Christmas/winter. It has never seen a bed and the fabric feels like brand new, apparently it won first prize and was put away in a cedar chest until I joined the family....I asked my MIL if I could have it to hang on my living room wall where it was enjoyed for a few years until we moved to the house we live in now.

It reminds me of big snowflakes but although I have a number of books with many vintage/antique patterns I can't find this one, and have always wondered what the name of the pattern is. Anyone have any ideas?

TIA

Joann

Not sure what the pattern is but wanted to say how beautiful it is!!! If I had to hazzard a guess I would say it was a version of the sawtooth star. But I am no expert!!

It is usually called a feathered star. The Sashing is flying geese, I think. And it is beautiful.

I believe it is a Freathered Star Variation! It is a beautiful quilt. Well worth the ribbon! Luann

I am thinking a sawtooth variation....it is a stunner, very cleverly put together and very effective in the two colours. Thanks for this wonderful heirloom with us.

The first words that popped into my head was "feathered star". I see flying geese as the sashing. Beautiful quilt.
