I wonder if you girls would help a beginner out? I have a pattern that I would like to make. I need 65 rectangles cut and the measurement is 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 in . Should I allow 1/4 seam allowance also?
I learned the hard way on other projects, best to cut them bigger and trim them to size after sewing. The difference between 1/4" and scant 1/4", especially if it's not consistent will mess up all your hard work.
If you are following a pattern, look carefully at the instructions. Most, in general, will include the seam allowance. But like with all things, there are exceptions. Have a wonderful time sewing! |
What is the pattern?
Can you copy to here exactly what the instructions say to do? Or provide a link to the pattern? :D:D:D
it's called polka dot party from the book quilting with bits and pieces.
I see a picture of Polka Dot Party about half way down this page:
http://www.softexpressions.com/softw...oks/4E1840.php so I see the small rectangles, but I can't tell the finished size. It should say in your instructions what the finished size is so that you know if seam allowances have been included. Wish I could be more helpful... Laurie |
usually patchwork patterns include the seam allowance, the seam allowances are sometimes left off for applique projects, not piecing projects.
The pattern should say.....
it really doesn't say just cut 65 1 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches. I guess I will have to make a sample pattern. Thanks anyway
But it doesn's say anywhere that seam allowances are included? Or not included?
