One item of clothing that is often discarded is old sweaters. Sometimes they get stretched or if they are wool , they may have been accidently shrunk in hot water or maybe they have holes or are just plain ugly. Its easy to cut big blocks from the fronts and backs of several and sew them together. If you dont wish to leave the edges raw , you could encase them with a strip of fabric. These make great throws or pet rugs since they are often fluffy. If you have a great sweater with a cute front, cut it out and make a throw pillow cover.
Several of my favorite thrift stores offer plastic bags in which you can stuff for only a dollar. Altho, you may not be able stuff a lot of sweaters in them , you can get plenty for a throw.
Have any of you made items from old sweaters?

I've never bought any sweaters for this use.

My grand kids love the pillows that I made out of sweaters for them because they are soft.

I saw them at a craft fair last summer, they were the cutest. recycled sweater-mittins, the purses had buttons and bows on them. They also made coats w/ lining in them, they were adorable. scarfs also.

Another idea for using sweaters, if you live up north in Winter, cut the long sleeves and pull them over your pants legs for extra warmth when you go out or if you have arthritis. If you bind the tops, use stretchy fabric.
These would be good for kids to wear when playing in the snow.
Owwwwwwwwww, snow, dont even want to think about it haha.
