Reduction
Forgive me for asking if this has been addressed before, but I don't read the blog every day. Looked at the sale add for Hobby Lobby this week and noticed they are now offering fabric at a 25% reduction....it use to be 30%. Is this a recent change or has this been going on for a while. I've been trying to use my stash and have not been there in months to shop for new fabric.

I was at Hobby
I was at Hobby Lobby last week, and it is 25% off fabric. When the stores had to close due to the virus, and reopened they didn't offer the 30% anymore. You could use the 40% off one cut of fabric. I guess we are lucky we can get 25%. Where in Davenport is a Hobby Lobby? |
our Hobby Lobby stopped the every-day 30% discount long before COVID was even "a thing."
i haven't bought any fabric there since. i don't question friends who still shop there with a 40% coupon; it's up to each person to decide. a 30% instant and permanent jump in price was just too much for me to tolerate. |
Our Hobby Lobby is on the Northeast side of town...on Elmore St. in the Walmart shopping center plaza.
|
Our Hobby Lobby stopped the practice shortly after last Christmas.

We just got a new Hobby Lobby in our town and I have only been there once but the fabric selection was very minimal. However, they were still stocking shelves as I was browsing thru.

Thanks, Lindaschipper, I have family in Davenport, and I can have them go to Hobby Lobby and we can pick fabric together for their quilts.

It would be interesting to know how your HL prices compared to other local stores regular prices, Patrice. When I checked, the orange-tag fabric prices at my craft store were just slightly lower than regular prices at other fabric/quilt stores. |
A good reason to comparison shop! Too bad there are fewer and fewer places even carrying fabric.

I was in Hobby Lobby this last week. All fabric was 50% off. I bought a bolt of muslin and got the 50% off.

Here, the ad in Sunday's paper changes. Sometimes, it says as much as 50% off. There is always a section of the ad just above the 40% coupon that will say what is on sale that week for X% off. Sometimes, it includes quilting fabric, sometimes not. They generally use the term, "Calico", which I assume is quilting fabric. There is not a HL close to me, so I rarely go there. Since I retired, I'm am no longer driving around the area regularly. I live in the city and all the HL stores are in the suburbs.

Another example of where fairly basic math/arithmetic is useful - - - -
By the way - usually when a store says x% off the reduced price - the reduction is off the previously reduced price - not the original price Example: Original price: $100 35% off of $100 = (1.00 - .35) * 100 = $65.00 35% off of $65.00 = (1.00 - .35) * $65 = $42.25 Not: $100 *(1.00 - (.35 + .35)) = $30.00 |
Example:
Original price: $100 35% off of $100 = (1.00 - .35) * 100 = $65.00 35% off of $65.00 = (1.00 - .35) * $65 = $42.25 Not: $100 *(1.00 - (.35 + .35)) = $30.00 I save the the $35 off the original price with first reduction and then save the savings of 35% off the extra reduction price. In the example, would have saved $57.75 from original price. That's how I figure the savings on % off clearance. |
HL is, generally speaking, not giving you 25/30% off the reduced price. An example is that the 40% off coupon does not apply to previously reduced merchandise. So, at least a while back, it did not make sense to buy their remnants or clearance fabric. They were not reduced by the standard, every day, 25/30% off nor could you use the 40% off coupon. Nor could you use the 40% off coupon on the every day price of 25/30% off. If you used the 40% off coupon on one cut of fabric, it was off the "regular" price, not the (in reality) every day price. So it was roughly 10% off.

i dont shop at HL - but I get annoyed by the pricing games of my Joanns. Regular coupons of 40% but only valid on nonsale items and it seems like everything in the store is 25% off.
I'm trying to shop my stash for now unless I need something in particular to finish a project. |
