That is good to know and I will be giving it a try, thanks...

Thanks for the tip, I'm going to try both sandpaper and the honing stone.

I use a white eraser or "big mistakes" eraser....works great! Then I wipe with a damp rag & let completely dry. It works really well! :)

A very fine honing stone works great. The round honing stone makes circular motion easy. You can find them at most auto supply stores or mill supply stores. One side is for removing, one side is for smoothing.

Not sure about re-marking your large mat--mine was not a self-healer and large, too. I'd tried using the Mr. Clean white sponges, the kitchen sponges with scrubbing on one side, regular "scrubbies" and finally decided it wasn't just a "need to clean" issue but I needed to smooth the cut marks. I would think it you do try to re-mark it, that you first want to get it super smooth so any lines will be even. Maybe after getting it super smooth you could use a very fine line sharpie to mark? What does everyone else think?

Good tip! Going to go try it in a few minutes. Thanks for the info!
