Remember the Angler
 

I've been working on a quilt that has a gazillion small squares sewn onto the corners of big squares and rectangles. Taking me forever. Then I remembered a gadget I bought a long time ago that should help. Low and behold, I found it, attached it to my machine (I even still had the directions) and away I went. The Angler is making the sewing of these little squares onto other bigger squares easy peasy. No drawing lines on the little squares. So glad I remembered the Angler and, better yet, I was able to find it amongst all the gadgets I have gotten over the years.

I keep my in my sewing machine cabinet. It is upright against the inner door in a space for taller items. That way I always know where it is.

I am also using my angler with the Twinkle Quilt blocks I am working on now. Handy little plastic when you need it. :)

there is a new version of the Angler that clings to the machine bed. It doesn't move at all. No need for tape. I won one on a blog give away. It's so easy to remove and put back on.

I bought one back in the 90's and liked it so much I bought a second one to put away in case something happened to the first one. I still use the original one and have the other one still in the unopened package. It's a very helpful little tool.

Could someone post a pic of the original one? Sounds fascinating and would like to see it. Thanks!

I make my own by placing a piece of blue painter's tape on the bed of my machine. I raise the presser foot, lower the needle, place a ruler up against the needle, lower the presser foot, make sure the ruler is running straight from front to back, and draw a line on the tape with a Sharpie marker. When sewing a square on, I just line up the points with the drawn line. The trick is keeping the foremost point on the drawn line while sewing.

I made a quilt for my son that had a gazillion HSTs (I kid you not - a gazillion) and the only thing that saved my sanity and got the thing finished was the Angler. I had it for a long time before I used it but was so glad to have it when I finally did need it.
