Sunday chat starts at 2 pm, eastern USA time.
we're going to attempt a traditional wedding ring. techniques used will include VERY SIMPLE paper piecing, and joining curved seams. we will start from scratch so i can demonstrate different ways to make the templates and show you how to adapt the pattern to make a solid center instead of one with seams running through it. the pattern is attached. BEFORE YOU PRINT, make sure to set page scaling to "none", then clicked the "advanced" tab and select "print as image". you will need: backing fabric (one fat quarter is more than enough) scraps for the rings straight pins marking pen hand needle and thread (in case you decide to baste) seam ripper (probably won't need it, but it doesn't hurt to have one handy  ) freezer paper thin cardboard or manila folder(s) sharp scissors for cutting out templates sewing scissors for cutting the fabric, trimming threads, etc hope to see you there. :P |
I'll be at the alter with my supplies in hand.
I'm going away this weekend, but will check out the transcriipt and pix. I really need a way to get less frustrated with paper piecing.
this paper piecing is going to be so super simple, you won't be losing out by missing that part of the class. relaaaaaaaaaaaaaax and have a goooooooood time on your trip. :P
I am not into paper piecing..........any other way to do this :?:
oh come on Ruth, I don't care for it either but I vowed to try new things this year, don't make me be there by myself (not liking it but supporting my friend). Let's make her think we like it. Who knows, we may before it's over with! LOL

Sounds interesting, I have loved the table runners hope this is just as fun. tlcquiltnut

ruth ... i promise ... this paper piecing will be painless. like string piecing, but with paper instead of foundation fabric. for the rings only.
I'm in still need to learn this If I'm ever going to tackle Tims star and the weddindg star quilt.
I have my grandson, so will have to check out the pics and directions after the fact. I'm excited you're doing this Patrice. It takes in two things I've sworn to tackle ASAP...paper piecing and curved seams. Thx, thx, thx.

I'd like to try this on Sunday. I've printed off the pattern, looked at the live chat.....do you just have the live chat on the whole time & then do you post pictures to the site or what? Might have to get creative to get my sewing machine set up near my computer, but presume that's what most people do?
Okay I figured out how to have the chat & the board on at the same time. 2pm Eastern looks like 11 AM Pacific so hopefully life doesn't get in the way. |
 Looking forward to the class!!!
I didn't find the transcript - was it posted yet?
the whole thing is at the top of the pictures section. i couldn't keep track of the chat transcript, so didn't save that. however, i added things that came up in conversation to the text the accompanies the instructions and photos, so what you see covers both.

I missed the class but went ahead and downloaded the paper piecing template. Can I figure it out on my own or are there directions somewhere to help me?
