I was unable to resist buying Hoffman's beautiful HOGIL2DR Gilded Holiday Golden Garden Maze, which I'm planning to use in some placemats, but the metallic gold is just not me, and there's a lot of it. Does anybody know a way to remove it or tarnish it enough so it won't shine?
(I'm brand new to this message board and delighted to have such and helpful wise friends available.) Yours, mcvl (Mary-Claire van Leunen) |

Try Lestoil on a small piece. I know it will dull fabrics that are all metallic, so it might do the same for the shiny areas on yours. You'll probably have to experiment to find the right strength and timing I'm afraid.
Simply prewashing often dulls the shine and that may be enough, so you may want to just try that first. |
Real gold doesn't tarnish. :)
I don't think gold colored plastic tarnishes either. Hopefully you've got an alloy of some sort. |

I have also noticed that washing tones down the glitter.
