Reorganizing Fabrics
 

My sewing room was revamped last year and I transfered all my fabrics to my new stash cupboard...and a few (no, a lot) of other places. My question is: I want to refold some of the fabrics for a better fit...would it be ok if I washed them again to get the creases out, or should I just re-fold them as best I can? It won't stretch them out of shape if I wash them again, and if I do wash them should I iron them or just fold them right from the dryer?

I have really learned a lot from everyone here on the Board, and will appreciate any and all suggestions.

Another question...does anyone else get behind in their reading of the QB???

I really enjoyed the Scrappy Quilt Thread from the other day... I'm allowing myself 20 pages a day, or I'll never get anything done!!! lol

Depending on how big some of the pieces are, sometimes I don't put them in the dryer. Another thing I've noticed is that if they're not ironed they take up even more space because they don't want to lay down as flat. There's no RIGHT way to do this. I'm a little lazier than some. I would just refold and stuff. Half the fun of starting a new project is pawing through your stash and rediscovering something you forgot you had.

I agree with Christine George .... whatever is easiest. I like to feel my fabric but not spending time organizing it. and yes, I spend way too much time reading here and researching suggestions from here .... you tube, online shops, blogs, websites etc. But I sure have learned a lot!
Besides I like playing the games on QB and reading the swaps and requests and offers and ..... :D

If the pieces are already washed - and still smell fresh - I would press/iron the pieces to get the creases out - if there are any flaws that I notice then, I put a small safety pin in the selvage that is closest to the flaw so that I know to look for it when I get it out again. I also usually iron on the back/wrong side - so I can follow the grain lines better.

Then I would fold them to whatever size will work for that piece.

When I redo my fabrics - it's like shopping all over again. :D
