Depending on the pattern and previous quilting design, you could use a decorative stitch over the seams. Make sure to catch the fabric on both sides of the seam. That will anchor the fabric to the batting and backing and help reduce stress on the seam. If there is a pattern to the separation, sew over all the affected seams and it may appear to just be an intended quilting pattern. I have tried fusing seams before and have not been happy with the result.

i wonder if you could sew something like grograin ribbon over the seams. or bias tape.

One of these weekends I am going to spend repairing some old quilts I have bought here and there. Most of them are worn in various spots, mostly with fabric shredding. I may try to place patches over those areas by cutting out some shapes from some really ragged older quilts I have that aren't really save-able. One reason I am interested to see how the zigzag idea works..I'll probably end up doing it.

Well, I'm either going to work on the quilt tonite or tomorrow nite depends upon tired level. Will post before and after pics and will probably do the zigzag thing on older patches as well as areasd that need new patches.

I promise to post pics tomorrow night , both before and after, when my DD is able to help me. I did zigzag all the blessed seams, like a million, that needed tacking down. I am almost finished minus a couple that require a thread color I don't have and the trimming of the threads. I will also give it the once over tomorrow with fresh eyes to make sure I haven't missed anything. Then I have to wash it and try to clean up some of the stains on the white fabric.
