I am making a welcome for some Iowa fans... which background do you think is best? I will probably blanket stitch around the letters in black.... thanks ladies, ( the yellow background looks a bit gold here. It is hand dyed and does match the lettering.)

If a small dense blanket stitch, I'd use the yellow. I don't think black would do enough to make the letting stand out on the blue, which is so close to the blue in the letters. The welcome would be most pronounced on the white background, which would be my second choice.

If you satin stitch the yellow one in black it would show well. The only one I don't think will work is the first one.

nativetexan 08-13-2017 01:53 PM

well the last one shows them better.

White. The others hide the letters.

I like the white background, it stand out the best for me. Very cute!!

Bluelady 08-13-2017 02:15 PM

White, the others blend the letters in way too much.

ckcowl 08-13-2017 02:29 PM

The white. The letters disappear in the other two

The white background shows off the nice lettering the best. Do you have a white or near white that has some texture or design to it, like a white on white? Just to add some dimension to it. I like the hand dyed yellow piece, too. Do you have enough to do a practice piece with at least one letter that you have stitched in which ever method you decide? Maybe it will make the lettering stand out more.

the welcome would be most pronounced on the white background

I agree. The letters are sort of lost in the backgrounds of the other two.

It stands out best on the white. Maybe add a couple of small borders in the other colors to frame it.

White show the letters the best.

l like the look of the white background. The letters are easy to read on it. Adding the other two fabrics as borders would look nice, or a border and binding.

well, thanks for advise. I really appreciate it. I did choose the yellow. then outlined in black. I like it... maybe doesn't show as well as the white, but.... I think it is ok

sdeaaz 08-15-2017 07:28 AM

I need to press the upper binding... looks a bit wonky in photo.

SusieQOH 08-15-2017 07:38 AM

I really like how it turned out!! It has more pizzazz than the white :)

I like it, turned out nice on the yellow background!

bearisgray 08-15-2017 08:10 AM

It does look nice with the black buttonhole stitch and the echo quilting around the letters.

The letters stand out nicely now.
