Retreat gift
I'm going to a retreat the first part of April and have to bring a quilty gift. I'm thinking of making the pad that goes under the sewing machine that helps cut down on vibrations. The ones I've seen have a flap with pockets that hangs in front of the machine. It looks like it'd be easy enough to make without a pattern, but I'm not sure how thick to make the pad. I'd google for a pattern, but I don't know what it's called! Has anyone made one?

Yes, I made one....I just used two pieces of fab, w&n batting....easy, quick, and cute....will make one for classes, retreats next. Btw I think the pattern was a referral from here....can't remember....sorry

Missouri Star Jenny Doan has a you tube video how to make one.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bN2oNZFKng
I go to a lot of retreats and I make one to give to my table buddy. I like to sit with someone I haven't met. |
Thanks, Geri and Onebyone. I'm new to the guild, so I'll be sitting with a lot of people I haven't met.
|
Thank you, Onebyone for posting the website. I don't have one and will need to make myself one to keep in my travel machine case.

I got one as a retreat gift a couple years ago. The materials at fat quarter size.
|
I've made a few of these. I use one of those terry or microfiber dish drain mats available everywhere, machine embroider something cute on it and add the front pockets flap to it. The width of the mat determines the size of the pockets.

At a retreat a year ago, we all received ones' that had the pockets in front and had the foam netting stuff you use as shelf paper (or heavier stuff that is used in mechanics' tool boxes that you can get at Harbor Freight). There was no batting in it--but the foam netting stuff kept the machines from vibrating and moving. I keep it in my travel machine case and it's great not sewing at my own machine table.
|
Another idea is to use that same foam netting stuff, just a 9" square that is bound with a cotton fabric--makes a great
non-slip pad to put under the foot peddle. |
I made mine without a pattern for each of my 3 main sewing machines. Each has pockets in the front with a little pleat to give more room in the centre pocket. 5 pockets on each.
you could make a mug buddy to match. Again a rectangle with pockets and ties or elastic under the handle. |
