Retreat Quilt Pattern Idea

Good Day,
I have been tasked with choosing the quilt that our group makes during our January retreat. Our efforts are comfort quilts that go to adult cancer patients at the local hospital. Generally we like patterns that make 6 1/2 inch blocks so we can do finish using the flip 'n sew method; and usually we make them close to 40 x 60. Our church funds us enough to provide batting and backing for the 200 or so quilts we give each year. So far I have gone through the options at Missouri Star, found and made 2 others that I didn't like (one was Warm Wishes). Do you have any great ideas for me? If you could post a picture or the name of the pattern it would be of great help.

This is a pattern that I made up myself,, although there may be a pattern somewhere for it. It's made with all half square triangles and the layout can be changed. I worked on one this past VQW, so am able to quilt it today.

There are so many options with half square triangles. I think that's a marvelous idea, and you could have pictures of various possible layouts.

So you didn't find anything at MSQC or you've already done them in the past?

I made the MSQ Summer Camp pattern and really liked how quick and easy it was. It does finish at 8 inches square but that is still ok for your dimensions.
For each block you need one 4 1/2"(un-finished) HST in a standard colour--meaning all the HST's are the same two colours throughout the quilt--, one 2 1/2x4 1/2", two 2 1/2x6 1/2" and one 2 1/2x8 1/2" strips. It is jelly roll friendly and there are lots of different layouts too. There is a free youtube tutorial of it. Here's a pic of mine.

Years ago we did Patience Corners. It was a very quick and easy pattern to make for charity quilts.

Any block pattern you like could be easily made into a jumbo size.
Just change up the dimensions.
These can be really quick-to-make and be quite showy quilts.

Here's a Churn Dash that I did ...

Recently saw this Radiant Splendour Star Jumbo block ....

How about rail fence? It would be pretty easy to sew using 2.5" strips together to give you 6" blocks of 3 colors, and there are many ways to vary the layout. If you have a lot of one color (for example, white), you can sew just the middle strip in colors. Or, 6 strips could be sewn together to form 12" blocks. You can also add sashing between the blocks if desired.

Here are some examples of rail fence possibilities on Pinterest:

My other thought is the Falling Charms quilt:

The only thing about Falling Charms is that you really need a single background fabric for each quilt. With rail fence, you just need to assemble 3 to 6 fabrics (or a collection of scrap fabrics) that work together.

sewmamasew has a free pattern, a variation of a Rail Fence called Strip Tango. Finished 48 x 60 inches.

How about any of the many log cabin variations? Or one of the jelly roll quilts. There are a ton of those besides the Jelly Roll Race that you don't have to use jelly rolls with.

I find that even the simplest pattern looks fabulous when made in beautiful fabrics.
