Ribbon Quilt

Just finished this top. Didn't match up the rows. Anyway, tossed between adding a border or not. The binding is going to be all of the colors of batiks used. Don't know if I want to use it either even though I have it cut out and ready to attach... I value this board suggestions. Thanks for looking and suggestions.

I have a braid quilt too, and my rows don't match either. Don't stress over that. Anyway, I would put a border if 1. I wanted it bigger, and 2. if I wanted it to look framed up a bit. Give a day or so, and let it speak to you. Sometimes a quilt will "tell" you if it wants a border.

Very pretty with those bright colors.

Very bright and colorful! I'd add a border to help tame those bias edges.....just saying....

I would add a border of just one of the colors and then bind with your combination of all of the batiks. Your quilt is beautiful. Don't just go with my suggestion though, as I am partial to borders. :) Audition a few ideas and select the one that you like the best.

Beautiful quilt! Either take it apart and ease those seams better so they come out even, or just trim the bottom. If you don't want to lose any length, you'll have to resew those seams. Your quilt is so gorgeous and will be wonderful either way.

Beautiful quilt. I would put a border on it -- either one of the colors in the quilt or (more likely in my case) black to give the eye a place to rest before the binding.

I was going to suggest just doing the binding, but if the binding is repeating the batiks, it will be a very low contrast quilt. I would add a pure black wide border (or pure white) in there for contrast.
I'm thinking maybe if you cut a free form curve along the outside of the center/inside of border it would add a strong design element that would coordinate nicely with the breezy, carefree design of the batiks. Since the outer edge would still be straight you could keep your pieced binding even if it's SOG. Cool quilt! I love batiks! It will feel like you're on a Caribbean vacation every time you take it out! |
