Design your quilt without them.

I made the quilt after attending a Ricky Tims/Alex Anderson seminar. One of the handouts we all received was a booklet that has instructions for a lot of Ricky-style quilts, including the kaleidoscope. There is no pattern; instead he walks you through how to design your own unique kaleidoscope pattern. When designing the wedge sections, just make sure when you draw them that you don't draw anything with Y seams.

I don't have the book he wrote for this quilt, so I can't answer to what instructions he's written therein. He does, however, have a couple of videos on YouTube that may help.

Grace, he has you draw our the "pie" on freezer paper and then cut it into the parts (the book tells you how many and gives hints on how to do that so you are lining up points on the stripe sets). I took my freezer paper templates and glued to plastic template sheets and be sure to make like the pattern shows. when you are drawing your sub-templates on the freezer paper "pie" is when you check that you are avoiding any Y seams. The book does a really good job explaining--read it through several times before you start. The pattern becomes unique to you as you are designing the templates. Fun quilt!
