I have always been able to produce fairly waveless boarders..now lately all my boarders have waves through them...for the life of me I just can't seem to remember what I am doing wrong or different...How exactly do I go about getting the perfect waveless boarders again?

Always measure thru the center of your top, and the edges and average those 3 measurements. Do the same for both length and width.

Well thats how I measure them...I'm not sure it's my measurements...I don't pull on the fabric either...

The only other thing I can think of is make sure the border is on top when you stitch it on. That way it will not ease in when you sew.

Have you checked, is your top square?

Maybe someone else has an idea!

Did the tension on your pressure foot get changed?

I always make sure the borders are on top..and the pressure foot is the same..I'm adding no pull..im not shifting the fabric while I'm sewing..this is why I'm stumped! Usualy my borders are straight and lay flat...I also square off my quilt before the borders..then after.

Did you miter your cornors? If so, maybe they're not true.

No, I was going to miter them, but I decided not to..this is just going to drive me nuts lol

Are you measuring your quilt in a few places and averaging the measurement before you cut the borders? It really does help!

I had my iron too hot and stretched the fabric. It was a string pattern with many pieces that had been cut on the bias. So the quilt didn't lay flat and the border didn't either. I corrected it by taking in the seams on the quilt and putting the borders back on. I hope this makes sense.

I'm also more careful handling a quilt along the edges so I don't stretch it.

i usually put the borders on the bottom to keep them from stretching. isn't it a hoot how different methods work for some quilters but create disaster for others?

i also never try to measure my borders precisely. i always make them extra long and then trim to size after they're stitched on. it adds to my scraps bin and i don't end up tearing my hair out. (at my age, i'm afraid it wouldn't grow back! :lol: )

Alrighty, take a look at your border where you sewed them across and they meet at the sides. If you take the top border where it joins with the side border and sort of wiggle it over the side does any of the waviness disappear? Trying to visualize!! Just starting my coffee :lol:
