Has anyone ever used this to dye fabrics for a quilt? Does it keep it color after washed...I would love to do some drawings on some fabrics and looking for something to use besides paints...??

Procion MX dyes can be used for painting on fabric. There are special thickening agents for the dye solution. I haven't done this yet myself, but know people who do it. With the proper fixative (soda ash), Procion MX dyes become washfast.

Rit is colorfast, but it may not be as intense in color as some of the newer fabric dyes...like the Procion mentioned above.

Procion dyes are vibrant and colorfast. I have 30 year old pieces that still look new. It is worth learning how to use them. Check out Dharma trading.

Would these dyes bet safe on baby quilts??
|
Oh yes. I dye up a pile of onesies every time there's a new baby. In fact, DD's boss has a new little boy, so I will do some soon!

When I was teaching daycare to make colors more vibrant we would salt the product. I don't know if technique could apply to fabric though.

if you go to Dharmatrading.com, they have everything you need including some free information, lots of how tos

ive used plenty of rit dyes...never had any problems; i do buy my dyes from Dharma Trading Co. but when i've needed a color available in rit and didn't want to wait on an order i've used it. just follow the instructions.

Also, prochem outside of Boston has great resources. I use procion dyes a lot as I like/prefer to use hand-dyes.
