I am planning a road trip to Mary Jo's Fabric Store in Gastonia, NC on Saturday, November 7th. The store is approximately 5 hours from my house in Wimington, NC. If there are others on this list that live in my area and you would like to go, you are more than welcome.

Momadoglewis expressed an interest. She lives in Beaulaville, NC which is not far from me. Piedmont Quilter & Ninnie live near Mary Jo's so we're hoping this date will work out for them to meet us there.

I have a small suv and can seat 4 passengers comfortably (other than myself) If you think you may be interested, think about it and pm me. Once we determine who's going and where everybody lives we will work out the details.

I have been wanting to go for a long time but have had so much going on it just never happened. If you are not familiar with Mary Jo's, they have a website here: http://maryjos.com/

Ninnie 10-09-2009 06:18 PM

I was there last Saturday!! Spent too much, could have spent 2 days there.
My favorite place to buy material!!!!! :D :D :D :D

You take the Cox Road exit off of 85 south! :D

Hunnib 10-09-2009 06:26 PM

I have heard the same thing from a lot of people. I have back trouble so I know I can't walk through the entire place but all they need to do is point me in the direction of their cotton quilt fabric. I may have to leave my credit cards at home...I'm almost afraid to take them, lol!

Hunnib 10-09-2009 06:37 PM

Ninnie, I meant to tell you I saved the directions on Mapquest web site and according to them it's only 4 hours from here which is even better...more time to shop!

Ninnie 10-09-2009 06:38 PM

The all cotton fabric sections is huge. Can't imagine not being able to find what you want there. :D :D People come from all over the world to shop there. Did you take the virtual tour on her web site? She was there Saturday, and we talked for awhile. I have been going for years. there is nothing fancy about the place. When you go in the door, you will stop at the desk and get a basket and paper slips, which the cutters will write down your purchases on. they tear all their fabric, and it is always straight. So, whatever your pleasure is, you will find it! :D That is what I always get for my Birthday and other occasions, a trip to Mary Jo's

Hunnib 10-09-2009 07:05 PM

Yes, I've been on their website many times and have talked to them on the phone...really nice to talk to. I am really excited about going.

You must have some kind of stash collection! :D

kwhite 10-09-2009 07:05 PM

I suppose since you are going on the 7th you know there is a quilt show in Gastonia that day. I stumbled on this listing today looking for something else and couldn't remember why Gastonia sounded familiar to me. When I logged on tonight and saw your posted, the light bulb went off.

Hey I'm going the last of October on a bus trip with my quilt guild. I've never been and am looking forward to it.

Hunnib 10-13-2009 06:29 PM

wichypoo - I've never been either and it's really not that far from me. I'm looking forward to it too. I hope you guys have a ball traveling together.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter - Thanks for making a note of that for me. I am not familiar with the area but I'm sure the other ladies that live closer will probably know more about it. I will print this out before we go, for sure! Thanks...wish you were going with us.

farscapegal - You must live close to Mary Jo's. Boy, I wish I did. Enjoy your trip to LA.

amma - I will try to remember to take my camera. I love meeting fellow sewers. You know you'll enjoy each others company because you already have something in common, lol!

crkathleen - Yep, that would be quite the drive for you. I will check out all the pretty fabric for you!

The next time I am at my step-daughter's in Rock Hill, S.C., I am going to ask her to take me there, It sounds like a wonderful place to shop or even just walk through and envy. My grandkid used to go to school in Gastonia so it's not far to go.

Scrapsaplenty 10-14-2009 03:36 PM

Been browsing for a while and felt I had to comment on the upcoming Quilt Show - "A Pieceful Gathering". This just happens to be my Quilt Club putting on this show. Directions from Mary Jo's. Cox Road north approximately 1 mile becomes Spencer Mountain Road (just across the RR tracks at stoplight) Continue approx 1 mile more - Church is on the right.

I was staying in Greenville, SC when I was in the US. My husband(at that time) at a business trip with the Michelin plant there. I met up with a fellow online quilter and we drove to Gastonia to Mary Jos for the day.... I almost hyperventilated when I walked through the doors!!! I didn't know where to start!!! LOL

btw, Greenville is a really nice place. I fell in love with the Carolinas when we drove there from Nova Scotia.

So wish it were a different Saturday so I could go with you!!! But Veterans Day Parade takes the precedent this year! Maybe another time when the weather is good?

Jacksonville isn't far from you but 4 hours there and 4 hours back is intimidating!
Bad back that I have.

Hugs,
Sharon

I feel that way every time I go. the adrenalin is rushing through me, and I have to calm down to shop     Getting started is hard and quitting is even harder!!!

Hunnib 10-15-2009 03:39 PM

LOL! You know...that's probably what will happen to me..the hyperventilating part. Wish all you girls could go. I am so looking forward to it. My machine got sick but I picked it up from the shop yesterday...thank goodness it wasn't anything major, so I'm ready to get some beautiful fabric to keep me busy through the winter, lol!

Suwannee Terry 10-15-2009 04:56 PM

It is my dream to go there............ My best friend and quilter and I had planned a road trip there this summer but had to cancel at the last moment. We'll get there yet! Have ordered a multitude of fabric  from there already .......... As already mentioned, they are great on the phone. BTW, there is a thread place close to them. Hav also ordered from them with great results. You guys have fun! That place sounds like a candy store.

I had forgotten about the thread place that was close by. Can you refresh my memory? As I remember, it's not very far either.

Also, I wanted to bump this up and see if there may be anyone else in my area that would like to ride with me. I'm going two weeks from tomorrow, which is Saturday, November 7th.

Suwannee Terry 10-23-2009 04:14 PM

When I called Mary Jo's to place an order, the csr who helped me kindly gave me the name. Sadly, I don't remember but am sure they can help. The quality and prices were excellent. If I ever have an opportunity to get to Gastonia, I will definitely find the thread store too. Lucky you :) .

Hunnib 10-23-2009 05:00 PM

Thanks!

CajunQuilter2 10-23-2009 06:50 PM

Farscapegal, Do you me Louisiana? If so what part. I live in Lafayette.
Also hubby will be doing work near greenville starting around the first of the year, we will be there for 10 months and I am so looking forward to checking out Mary Jo's. Actually he will be working in Pickins and we are looking for a place to rent in the surrounding area while we are there.

Hunnib 10-23-2009 07:01 PM

I know you will love going. I hate you can't make this trip.
