Do you put them on? On all your quilts? Or only those you expect to hang?

If you put them on, what do you suggest is the best way? What width?? How do you attach it such that it is strong enough not to tear the quilt? I don't want to machine sew it down, because then you will see it through the front, but I want it to be very stable and not tear the quilt.

I made a quilt for my brother and he is now asking for me to sew a rod sleeve on the back. His backing is a cream/tan solid. I don't think I have any more.

Any suggestions? Ideas? Experience?

I do the pressing after I've sewn the long seam. But the important part is to make sure you leave a bit of "give" in the sleeve to accommodate the rod.

I also sew down the sides - that prevents the rod from being incorrectly inserted BETWEEN the quilt and the sleeve, rather than into the sleeve.

I don't put a sleeve on. I mount a curtain rod on the wall and use the curtain rings with a small clamp on them (like a cloths pin) hang the quilt like a curtain. easy to change quilt for the seasons'

I did suggest other options to him to hang it and I got the response that he wants a sleeve...darn it!

Thanks for the link! I will try to do it that way!
