Rolling Up Fabric Scraps
Not sure I've ever seen this before so I thought I'd ask. I have started to "roll" my fabric scraps, especially the strips. I take a dowel and kay it over the end of the strip and roll it up and pull the dowel out. The "rollups" fit nicely into a large plastic box. I find its easier to find the ones I want rather than hanging lots of strips on hangars in a closet.
Anybody else roll their scrap stash. ? |
I keep all my pre-cuts in a basket.

I roll mine on tp tissue rolls. Stores easy.

I do that too. But my rolls are usually strips left over from each quilt. It really comes in handy when you are looking for a specific color or fabric. Since it was used in "this quilt", it is in this roll, etc. I had a quilt top I made a few years ago and wanted to finish. When I pulled it out to quilt, it just needed something else. I decided to add applique to the corners and partial border, so I just pulled out the roll that I used in the original quilt. So much easier than digging in my stash for all the fabrics used.

Just so you can remember what you have and find things quickly and easily.

If you are rolling you must be having larger amounts of left over fabric than I do. Some of mine wouldn't make it round a toilet roll.it is a good idea with larger lengths.

I usually have left over strips from jelly rolls and strips I cut with the Go. They go in my strip bin for foundation piecing. One bin for lights and one for darks. It would take me a long time to roll them but I like the idea.
