Interesting thread. It sounds to me like there is a market out there for a class on how to use these sharpeners!
If they work for some people, and not for others, I have to think that there is a "knack" in using them which we ordinary souls don't know about! We have a great kitchen knife sharpener in the kitchen. I wish I could sharpen my rotary blades on that. But saving them for paper work is a good idea! |
I saw the ad for it - I would be really interested in what you think. The hand held ones aren't worth the paper to say they aren't any good!!!!!

I have had a sharpener for about 10 hrs. Don't know the brand. I do the same as Shelbie. It helps to "clean" them up a bit and prolong the blade life. I can usually get another couple months out of an Olfa blade. Emily |
Harbor Freight recently open in our area about 10 miles from me one day stopped in and found blades Item Number 97642 and are marked 2 blades 1.99 Board members on here say the fit the Olfa & Friskers Haven't tried yet but purchased 2 pks. anyway to try

I'm not the person to respond to this post, but I'm going to anyway:>) I use my blades until they are almosted rounded instead of razor sharp. Then I store them in the pastic container they come in - in case the day comes when I'm out of new ones and really, really need a different blade. The old stored blades are used for cutting chores around the house; paper, cardboard, opening packages, etc.
I keep promising myself to order some from Harbor Freight, but I never seem to get around to it. |
I have found a Harbor Freight store and go directly to the store. I found it by doing the store locator on their web site. They are nation wide. No freight that way.

I tried the sharpener but wasn't happy with the results. However I do turn my blade around to get more use out of it. This does help.
