Rotary cutter blades and sharpeners

For the first time in a very long time (long break from sewing/quilting), I had to reorder blades for my 45mm rotary cutters. I got them from Amazon. When I got them, the only thing in English was OLFA - the rest was Chinese characters. Just FYI - you can get the same thing on Aliexpress for half the price. I ordered them and they arrived last week. No visible or working difference from what I got on Amazon.

Also, I had to throw away blades. I saw a sharpening tool on Amazon that costs about $40. Are any of you sharpening the blades and continuing to use them?

I have never had any success with resharpening rotary blades. It is just not worth the time and effort.

Why do you hate to throw away bad blades? I don't see a purpose in saving them. I've tried all the sharpeners and they all work to refresh a blade but not sharpen it enough to be like new.

Havel's sewing has rotary cutters 2 for 1. I have found their blades exceptionally fine.

i read somewhere on this board where someone bought 45 Rotary blades at the hardware store for very little money and work i have not been able to go and look. but it is a thought.

I bought an electric sharpener just for rotary blades, but it doesn't really work very well. In fact, the more I tried to sharpen the blade, the duller it became. I even changed the sharpening stones like it said in the directions. First used the coarse stone and then switched to the fine stone. No luck. I saw of Youtube a video where a guy said the blades are made of hardened steel, and there's really no way to sharpen them well at home. (NOW he tells me! lol)

I wish I had the cash back for all of the blade sharpeners I had tried. I just buy new blades. I doubt I will ever buy into the hype again about any blade sharpener.

The blades are for carpet cutters, and it's Harbor Freight that they buy them from. Some members have used them with success and some with no luck. I've tried them, but didn't like them. So I just wait until get a JoAnns coupon and stock up.

My quilting group bought that expensive one, probably the same one sittingPretty mentioned, It was a waste of money. No one had any luck with it. Google blades and you will find deals.

I've found this as well...they might extend the life of the blade but it is not the same as a new one.
