I have bought 2 different ones and although they cut ok with one layer, if I try to cut multiple layers, I have to go over the cutting line over and over, sometimes pushing so hard I about get calluses. Am I buying the wrong kind of rotary cutters? Also, are they supposed to spin as you cut? mine do, and when I tighten the wheel, it works its way loose again... sigh* not even sure i'm doing it right. Please help.

Hi diogirl. Yes the blade is supposed to spin. Did you replace the blade? If so, are you sure you put it back together right? Or did you somehow get more than one blade on there? (ask me how I know about those things) LOL   What kind of rotary cutter did you buy? What size? Hopefully we can help you out.

There's no brand name on it anywhere, just says rotary cutter. What are the numbers on the blade mean?
|
Make sure you only have 1 blade in there. If you buy blades in multiples, sometimes 2 blades will stick together....been there, done that.
Also, try changing blades, you just might have a bad one in there....happens sometimes. |

I just typed in "how to use a rotary cutter on youtube" into google search and there's a few videos available that might also help you out.

if you have the "nut" on there to tight it will not spin which will cause it to not cut. Loosen up the nut so the blade spins freely but doesn't fall off and try cutting fabric! My fiskar tends to get loose and I have to tighten it but I know I can't tighten it TO tight or it won't work!
With a new/sharp blade you should be able to cut at least three or four layers, I know with a sharp blade while working on my sisters quilt I was cutting about six at once! |

My rotary has a little washer that's not flat...kinda curled up (best way I can describe it). If I don't have that in the right way, the blade wobbles.
