What brand rotary cutters do you prefer? Are the Gingher worth the additional cost?

I have a really pretty pair of Ginghers, but I still reach for my Olfas all the time - the Ginghers are cold to touch.

I can only speak for myself, but switching to a Gingher rotary cutter was like turning the light on in a dim room - it just seemed to make cutting that much easier!

So for me, yes, it was worth it.

I love my Gingher! (love their scissors too!)

Painiacs 09-09-2011 10:45 AM

I just got one but haven't tried yet!

I have broken two Fiskars this year. :(

Flying_V_Goddess 09-09-2011 11:02 AM

I have a Fiskars and it gets the job done.

I usually grab my Olfa but I have a Martelli and really like using it, too.

That's what I had before, and it lasted for years. When it broke I completely splurged on the Ginghers.

They are not necessary to get the job done. But it made the job easier, for me.

I have my original olfa. I don't even want to think about how old it is. It fits well and I don't know if I could get used to another one. Not that I would want to try them out, I just don't see a need to spend money on something I may or may not like when I could spend the money on fabric. I'm happy with my old friend...

I love my olfa.

Jim's Gem 09-09-2011 11:25 AM

Martelli!!!!!

QKO 09-09-2011 11:31 AM

The only thing we use anymore for cutting in the shop are Martelli Ergo cutters. They just give a lot more control and are easier to use for a lot of repetitive cuts.

Glassquilt 09-09-2011 02:17 PM

Martelli

Love the Gingher. Found several on ebay for around $20+-. it arrived with a Joanns price tag of $69.99 in sealed packaging. Hmmmmm! If you want to buy one make sure you get the right one for you - right or left handed. Its not one size fits all. I also really like my Olfas which Ive had for years.

luvTooQuilt 09-09-2011 02:42 PM

I love my retractable olfa.. I dont care much for the easy change one tho.. and I hate my fiskers- too wobbly- so i use then to cut paper..

Dolphyngyrl 09-09-2011 04:47 PM

I have both olfa and gingher, got the gingher cheaper on ebay and I do have to say it is worth the money and I do like it better than my olfa, but I use both. To each his own

SingerSewer 09-11-2011 05:23 AM

Thank you for your input. I am thinking seriously about the Gingher. I have also heard the blades remain sharp longer than other brands.

Val in IN 09-11-2011 06:52 AM

I have Fiskars and Olfas, I like them both. I have another one that you use with a special ruler that sharpens it as you cut. I don't like that one at all. I would love to get the Gingher cutter. I have a pair of 4" Ginghers that are just wonderful.

cny_sewer39 09-11-2011 07:07 AM

I have a 28MM & a 45MM Fiskars rotary cutters. Mine are the old gray ones. They work great for me, I LOVE the way they fit snuggly into my hand. I have an Olfa 28MM that I use to add a seam allowance onto pattern pieces. Every1 needs to use what is best for them. Thanks for letting me leave my 2 cents worth.
