Rotary Cutters
 

Hello all: I would like to know if there is a special way to hold a rotary cutter to cut fabric: I have tried to use mine before Christmas to cut fleece for no-sew blks for grn.kids and it was very hard to get it to cut the fabric: I had to cut over and over in the same place to get it to cut: The blade was a new one I purchased at Michael's and had not been used. I really messed up my cutting bd with having to go over so many time and to put so much pressure on it. Any advise you have will be welcome:

was the blade made for that cutter? that may make a difference. i know when i've changed blades that i've gotten two stuch together and they will not cut well at all that way. the cutter should be held against the ruler and upright. there are tutorials out there on how to use them. you might do a search for visual aid. good luck.

were you using a 60mm cutter? or a 45?...the 60mm is larger and works better for thick fabrics...you should never have to put alot of pressure on a rotory cutter- if you are pushing hard enough to damage your mat you are pressing WAY too hard! do you have the correct blade for the cutter? did you turn the (screw) on the cutter too tight so the blade can not roll smoothly? also...fleece is (hard) on cutter blades! it dulls them quickly---scissors are sometimes a better choice.

What rotarty cutter size are you using?

60mm Olfa Quick change will cut through anything, love olfa

I was usine a 45mm

You definitely need to get a 60mm cutter for cutting fleece. I even use it when cutting anything more than 4 layers of cotton.
