Is there any way of flattening out a self-heeling mat once it gets a ripple. I have 2 like that. I didn't realize they were under my ironing pad!

I have heard this works, but try at your own peril! preheat oven to warm, not 350. Turn off and place cutting mat on flat cookie sheet in the oven to relax. If you try this, let me know how it works for you. Just make sure that your cookie sheet is big enough. You might try doing the same thing in the trunk of your car on a sunny day, I know they get wrecked that way, maybe that can fix them, too.

I am going to try to glue one down to a piece of plywood to see if that will work. Other than that possibility, I haven't heard of anything that will work.

I would not glue to plywood! You will loose 1/2 of your mat. When mine gt to bad I flip them over, voila' a new mat!

Yah, but they still have the ripple! I'd not use plywood, but some stiff cardboard or something. I have a free counter space and a second bad board that I could actually glue to permanently! I'll let you know. (No DH to say I can't!) Like I put nails under my sewing table to keep the peddle in place!

I just bought a quart of contact cement to try this very thing. I figure the mat is ruined to start with so if it doesn't work I'm not out anything. I have a scrap of plywood and am gonna have friend go around it with his router to smooth out the edges if it works. Maybe I should add this to my long list of weekend chores.

Maybe the 'spray' adhesive would be better than brushing on rubber cement? It should be more 'even' that way verses having uneven areas bkz the glue was heavier in some areas. Just a thought.

okay, at least use parchment paper if you're going to put it in an oven, though i think i'd just buy another.

also, have you considered using a pizza stone or piece of untreated quarry tile in the oven?

Missi, yep, I have my brush and contact cement ready and I'm going to glue one to an old laminate, well-lit counter top! I still have the other mat (I ruined two and they get expensive!) Plywood would be too heavy and awkward. Might try heavy cardboard sometime. Will let you know how it works!

I took mine out to the patio and laid it directly on the cement and let the sun shine on it during the heat of the day. I then brought it in while it was still warm and laid it on my flat cutting table to cool. It has been like new since then.

Must have been the Texas sun, Wini! Mine is now contact cemented to my counter! Anybody know how to get contact cement off fingers?

I put mine on top of the dryer and stacked a few things on top. After a few drying cycles, it was flat again.

I hope you can get it fixed. They are so expensive.

Besides the cement on the fingers did you have any problems? Did the bubble parts stick and stay down over the weekend?

Sure did stay stuck and I love it! Course my 9 yr old grandson had to try picking at it while we were talking but its stuck! The cement wears off fingers in a day or two. Enjoy your day.

Yah!!! - I am so excited to get mine glued. I am still gonna use the ply wood cause I am gonna put it on top of a dresser that I use as a cutting board. The top of the dresser isn't quite big enough for a my large mat so the ply wood will give me a hard surface for cutting too. Then I can leave the new one upstairs for when I do large cutting projects. I have a counter height table that I cut at when I do lots of cutting. Saves the back :)

I even put my "craft" sewing machine on it for doing appliques, etc. Sure doesn't slide around! I will enjoy the mobility of the second one and being able to turn it. It's no so bad. I may try the top-of-the-dryer-with -a-pile-of-heavy-stuff-on-it that someone else suggested.
