Citrus: Yes, each shop designs it's own row pattern. They usually have a kit or pattern available. You need to visit several shops to get different rows. It's like a shop hop, instead of a block pattern, you get a row pattern. The store should also have license plate (printed on fabric) with a different saying. I also heard via my LQS, the 1st person who brings in their completed row quilt will get a prize from the store, but only the 1st person. It looks like a fun thing to do. I plan on at lease visiting stores near my area. I figure 6-8 stores in the next few months. When I will complete the project is another story, but it seems like a fun thing to do and visit different shops.

New York state was the first to do this a couple of years ago. Each shop had a different pattern and they all had something to do with NY state. Since I live in the Finger Lakes region, the local shops had an apple, grapes or wine bottles, maple leaves, race cars (Watkins GLen), etc. I don't know what they have this year but can't wait to find out.

The quilt has to have 8 rows and be completely done with batting, backing and binding. You can take it to any store, so if the first store you try has a winner you can go to a store that hasn't had one yet.. Some places have quite a few stores participating. The Knoxville area has at least 8 stores. that are participating.

This looks like fun. I have promised myself not to start any new quilt tops until I get four or five of my UFOs finished. But, that does not mean I can't pick up the patterns. Right? :o My to do list growth.

Im not rich enough to do this but would if I had the money. Maybe just shops in the state I live in.

I'm looking forward to the start, though sad that it didn't start this month as I've made three out of town trips already this month to places I'm not planning to visit in July and August.

On the Facebook sites by state there are pictures of many of the rows designed by participating shops. Some are quite intricate applique and others are simple blocks - which combined will provide great variety to a quilt. I've seen one that will likely have to be done by purchasing the kit or random yardage of a particular fabric line because it is very specific to that fabric line.

The license plates are optional for purchase and stores had to order them.

I tried the link but found no section that described how one would quilt a row as you went along. It did give the quilt stores that participate on each state but not the method. Am I overlooking something?
