Ruffled stitching

When sewing strips together they seem to be ruffling. Any idea why this is happening? If I slide the stitching to straighten it out then I lose stitches on the end of the strip set.

It is probably tension. Pull on one thread at a time to find out if the bobbin or the spool thread is the problem. Take a picture of your tension settings before fiddling with them.

Has this been happening for a long time?

Sounds like it could be a threading problem. You could re-thread and see if that solves the problem.

One of your tensions is way too tight. If the thread is laying on the top of the fabric and the lower is making the loops, then it's the top tension. If you can slide the thread to smooth it, then the seam isn't very strong.

I agree, it's most likely the tension.

Is your stitch length too long? You should have about 9-10 per inch.

9 or 10 is considered a long stitch. 12spi would be a maximum length of what is considered a "short stitch."

I too would say it is most likely the tension. I have had this happen my biggest mistake is I did not take pictures before I started and it took me several days to get it where it needed to be.

It could be that your tension is a little off or you may need to lengthen your stitch. Also, you could try and re-thread your machine as I know that is what I do if I have a problem. Good luck to you and I do see that you have a lot of advice and ideas of how to remedy your ruffling problem
