Does anyone know how to use the ruffler on a singer 201? I want to put a ruffle around a baby quilt I am making. I have the attachment but never attempted to use it. Does the fabric go under it or thru it or what? Thanks for any help you can give.

The fabric that you do NOT want ruffled goes completely under the foot/over the feed dogs. The fabric that you want ruffled goes between the "blade" of the ruffler and the plate of the ruffler.... (hope that makes sense!)

Do you have the manual for your 201? Most of the old Singer manuals have pictures and instructions for the various attachments in the back half of the little manual.

You can download free manuals from the internet that show how to use them, too.

I just bought one for my machine - you put the flat fabric underneath the ruffler and the ruffle fabric between the blades of the ruffler - it works great - I haven't used it only tried it when I bought it. Now I am looking for something to ruffle.

That's one of the shortcomings of this attachment - you do need to use some scrap strips to figure out how much fabric the ruffles will need.

Not only does the ruffler behave differently on different fabrics, so that you get 30" of ruffles out of 42" of batiste and 27" of ruffles out of 42" of a Moda-like quilting cotton when the ruffler is set on 12, (a tuck every 12 inches) there is also a setting to determine how deep you want the tucks to be.

And if that's not enough variability for you, the tension and stitch-length settings on your machine affect the finished product, too.

So, buy extra fabric for experimenting and figure in a pretty good "fudge factor!" :)

new here.I found this interesting.I just got an old treadle as a gift and it had the ruffler foot with it,and the manual telling how to use it, but I also have a singer 2001 touchtronic with the ruffler and pamphlet too. it is amazing how from the early 1900 to the 1980 that they havent really changed that much.

One of my machines was made around 1878...it's pretty much the same on that one too! :)
