Which ruler to buy for the first ruler to buy for the beginner?

6x24

you can use it to cut yardage and to cut smaller pieces too.

Dido-what fabric_fancy said.

I would say a 6 1/2" X 24" it will cover most things you will want to cut :D:D:D

I agree with fabric_fancy and Summer Spice

I would buy two - a 6 x 24, for sure, and 6 x 12 to be less weidly with smaller cuts. Whatever size(s) you get, make SURE they are the same brand ... or that the brand will also be available later. Don't mix brands because they can measure differently (I made that mistake.)

I would agree 6x24 -- get it at Joann's at 50% off and you have a good buy too.

I would say 6 1/2 x 24 for the first and then a 4 x 14 for the second.

They all have the size right. As far as brand...I love the Quilter's Rule..it had the grippies on the back and when you push down to cut it grips the fabric. I've tried several different brands and I always go back to that.
