Ruler Feet

So, I've finally gotten interested in trying ruler quilting with my Janome 6600, but it's expensive buying the ruler feet before you can even start buying the rulers! Do these ever go on sale anywhere?

Can't answer your question about $ale$ on the ruler feet.

However, once you get your foot, to get going without buying a ruler,
you can use a 1/4" piece of plexi.
It will not have all the fancy grids and such, that the "real" rulers have,
but if you choose the right things to quilt, it will help you to get used to working with the ruler,
and give you a sense as to which sizes/shapes you will want ... or not want.

It's only a temporary solution, but it will help you spread out the cost.

Westalee has a starter set that includes the foot, two rulers and the gauge that is a great place to start.

Thanks for your suggestions! I'll look into Westalee and the plexiglass substitutes.

wishful- I got the Westalee starter set and it's really nice. Just be sure of the shank of your machine before you buy your set. Good luck!

Can anyone tell me how to tell what shank you have? I have four machines and do not know.

SusieQOH, How can you tell what the shank is on the machine?

Go to the wikipedia website and type in presser foot shank description for sewing machines. There are three types of shanks, low, high and slanted. It depends on the distance from the bottom of the foot up to the thumbscrew. There is also a picture of the various feet and what you need to look for.

Ask whoever you are getting your Westalee set from. They will be able to tell you which foot to get.
