Ruler foot for brother sewing machine

I need help i am just getting started wanting to learn free motion quilting. I bought some dapline 1/4 inch ruler for different designs. I got a ruler foot for low shank but the foot is so low i cant move the the material around. Feed dogs are down i mean there is probably only a 1/16 inch under it. Suggestions anyone i am currently very sad and wondering what to do

Is the foot you bought recommended for your brother? I would only use ruler feet for your specific machine.

You might get better advice if you include the model of your sewing machine.

I'm not familiar with that brand of ruler foot. If your machine is a low shank machine, then any ruler foot designed for a low shank machine should fit. Most ruler feet have a slot where the foot screws into the machine which enables you to raise it or lower it as needed depending on foot thickness. If that foot doesn't have a slot or a thumb screw that raises and lowers the foot, then maybe they sent you a foot meant for a high shank machine instead of the low shank one.

It would help if your machine had presser foot tension adjustment. But your machine doesn't have that.

If the foot you bought is plastic with a metallic coating, you can sand the bottom off a bit or sand the slot a bit deeper.

My machine also has a low shank, and just yesterday I watched a youtube by Amy quilts about the different rulers pros and cons. She doesn’t address your exact question but you might find it helpful.
