Used to have a major problem when rotary cutting in my kitchen under the florescent lights. The glare coming off the rulers had me moving my head all around so I could see the measurement marks. Must have looked funny! It became such a nuisance that I got a can of Minwax Polyurethane Clear Satin spray and gave each ruler 2 thin coats. The difference is remarkable as you can see. I know Olfa now makes a frosted ruler but the frosting is on the bottom for gripping fabric and doesn't solve the glare.

Well, aren't you clever?

Thats a good idea!
I cut and sew on my "kitchen" table that is in my "dining" room really just one long room half kitchen half eating area, anyways there is a light in both areas, I normally turn the light out over head in the dining room and use the kitchen ligh it doesn't glare but I do get weird looks from my husband when I turn one light out and the other on in an area I am not working!

Pretty ingenious!!!! They said the mother of invention was always necessity! :D

Now go patent the idea (I am really being serious) and figure out what your going to do with your new found wealth!

Wow, what a difference. I need to try that.

Good to know. You should submit that to one (or all) the quilt mags that accept reader tips.

Great idea. I bet you could spray the glass on pictures so that the room lights, etc, wouldn't reflect off them. I am going to try it. Thanks for sharing.

This is the 2nd thing I've learned today. I have a window I cut in front of on the counter in my sewing room and I get a glare from it, I will try your idea. I usually close the mini blind.

Don't worry about a patent on your idea, nor contacting quilting magazines, I'm sure someone has already stolen your idea.

Thanks for the tip.

What a great tip. You need to send that in somewhere and make a few bucks off it.

I have a tip, not about rulers but about seam rippers. I always had trouble using a seam ripper, I use a little utility knife that is usually for cutting wallpaper at the top and bottom pf the paper. Anyone who has wallpapered knows what I mean. It has snap off blades, so when it is dull you just push up the blade and snap off the dull tip and then you have a nice sharp blade again. an Exacto knife works too,but you have to change the blades more often
