Rulers for FMQ on DSM. Have you tried them?

I believe there was a recent discussion on these rulers.. My recollection of the comments is... Might be ok for long arm but too awkward for home machines.

I think it's easier to use a walking foot for straight lines on a domestic machine. I can't imagine trying to FMQ with rulers on a domestic machine because you need both hands just to control the movement of the quilt. If you use a walking foot for straight lines, you don't need a ruler; you just need a guide -- seamline, marked line, piece of painter's tape, etc.

Rulers are more feasible on a longarm because you can control the motion of the machine with just one hand, leaving the other free to position the ruler.

Yes, a walking foot is the best route ..... however, there are times when you want to straight line quilt in the midst of FMQ ....... and IMHO this would be the way to go.

I've "played" with it a bit and I think one could get the knack of it with some practice.

As with most things ... what works for one, is not for the others.
There's no rules!!!

Depending on how your machine is set, you might even find that you can use your regular quilting rulers (that we measure with) to do the job.

Give it a try and decide for yourself! :)
