Rulers

Other than the straight edge, which ruler do you most often reach for? I like squares in all sizes.

auntpiggylpn 08-29-2012 12:37 PM

I generally only use my Olfa frosted 6" X 24" ruler. If I am cutting down HST, I like to use a square ruler the exact size of the finished square such as 4" or 5", etc. I also have a 2" X 6" ruler that I use when I am paper piecing to trim the pieces. I have a June Taylor Shape cut ruler that I use to cut my strips even though I have the Accuquilt Go with all the strip dies. Just easier to pull out the June Taylor than lug out the Accuquilt Go and the strip die. I have a gazillion rulers and they just hang on a skirt hanger in the closet.:(

I have a very nice 18 1/2" square up ruler. It's nice for blocking corners and for cutting large squares of fabric like when making tote bags.

Also, have a 3" by 18" ruler with 1/8" grid marks on it. Comes in handy a lot!

I either use a 5"x24" - 6" x 24" - 8" x 24" for the most part. Of course I have many more, these are my go to rulers.

JT Shapecut, and usually my small squares for squaring up blocks, but I have a few that I need to start using soon

Joset 08-29-2012 01:41 PM

i almost alway use my 6 x 24

QuiltnNan 08-29-2012 02:15 PM

my most oft used ruler is the 6.5x24

After my 6” x 24” Omni straightedge, it’s a toss up between the 4 1/2” Omni square and the Fons & Porter “Easy Diagonal Sets” ruler by Omni.

I have many and use different ones for different things. Whenever I can, I prefer to use my 4"x14" rectangle. It's easiest to handle. If I need a wider one, I've got 6"x 18", 6"x24". If I'm cutting strips, I LOVE the June Tailor slotted ruler! For squaring up, I've got various sized squares. I'm all for quick & easy. If it's easier to buy a certain size to square up a lot of blocks, that's what I do. :) Always wait for a sale of course!

Quiltngolfer 08-29-2012 03:34 PM

I use my 6" by 24" Omni most. I use my June Taylor for strip cutting.

tlambing 08-29-2012 03:37 PM

Use my 6x24 the most, but love the little 1x10 for tiny things on my tiny mat :)

Mariposa 08-29-2012 03:37 PM

I use Omnigrid rulers-mostly the 8x24, 4x14, 6.5 square, and 3.5 square. :)

I love my June Taylor Shape Cut. It's the only ruler I never put away.

luvTooQuilt 08-29-2012 07:26 PM

i have sooo many and i use them each for different purposes... some i like better on dark fabrics and some i like better on lighter fabrics.. Its too hard to choose just one favorite... lol..

Next to my 5x24 OmniEdge, I really like my 2-1/2" x 30 Binding Buddy ruler.

Jim 08-29-2012 09:22 PM

I have many but hands down use my Shape Cut more than ANY other tool

Handcraftsbyjen 08-29-2012 10:57 PM

My Creative Grids Quick Trim Ruler and also any of my Twister or Primitive Pinwheel rulers.

My add a quarter for pp ing is so useful. It speeds up pping and makes it so easy.

Silver Needle 08-30-2012 11:16 PM

TruCut rulers & rotary cutter for rectangles and squares. Kay England's Nifty Notions 1/4 & 1/2 square rulers for HST and others for special triangles. Deb Tucker's rulers for squaring blocks, flying geese, lemoyne star.

Rose Marie 08-31-2012 05:16 AM

My best investment in rulers are Quilt In A Days triangle square up ruler and all the flying geese rulers. What a difference for saving time and making perfect pieces. Eleanor Burns is the best at new ways to do things.

QuiltnLady1 08-31-2012 05:39 AM

June Tailor Shape Cut is the first one I go to. Next is the 8x24 -- though for smaller pieces I use the 4x6. For trimming, I have a lot of smaller squares and grab the one that is closest to the size block I am trimming. I probably have too many rulers, but in any given year I have used all the rulers.

Lori S 08-31-2012 05:54 AM

The one I use most often is my 3 in X 18 inch. For paper piecing I use a small 1 inch X 6 inch .. but I do lots of really small pieces.
