My grandson runs races. I would like to make him a quilt, but can't find anything to use. Any suggestions?

I don't get that people feel obliged to make quilts so specific. Maybe start a little simpler. Find out his color preferences and go from there. I am sure whatever you offer will be special.

Thanks Debra

Old track mom and quasi official here. Does he run for his school/team or as an independent? Find sport fabric for runners can be difficult, and near impossible if the kid is a fielder. I would recommend doing something in team/school colors. No matter how ugly the school colors might be (any ours were UGLY) the kids were drenched in them.

I will be watching this one....I have an order for a quilt using a marathon runner's aprons. They are paper, so I am copying them to fabric, but was looking for fabric with something to do with running and have had no luck so far.

I just looked through all 34 pages of novelty fabric and 22 pages of sport fabric on ebay....NOTHING for runners. Now if he was into fly fishing, bicycling, snow boarding - you name it, it is there. BUT, nothing to do with running. :-(

Steven is more of a marathon runner. He is home schooled.

Thanks for finding this. I have bookmarked it and hope my client will like it as part of the quilt she has ordered.

There are fabrics with bright colored sneakers on it. That would be fitting. I like to make quilts that are as tailored to the recipient as I can. The fabric, the pattern, the colors all picked with them in mind.

Go to quiltshop.com, search on sneakers and hit thumbnails - there's a bunch of choices.

My son is also a runner, and he gets tee-shirts at almost every race. Make a tee-shirt quilt! I made one for my son and then all his team mates wanted one, too. There are lots of websites with free instructions.

I too am a runner. The quilting patterns I have been able to find have been few and far between. May I suggest a t shirt quilt made out t shirts from some running events he has participated in? There is also a really nifty pattern for a Boston Marathon block here: http://www.equiltpatterns.com/quiltp...roducts_id=277
It only costs 99 cents and I think it's a pretty cool block.

Hope this helps.
