salvage quilts
Hello from France, this is my first posting although I have been reading the forum for some time now! It's great to see other peoples work and work spaces!!!
I saw a photo of a quilt with blocks made of salvage edges and I am going to save mine to use. My question is how wide do you cut the salvages to give you enough space to sew? At the moment I cut them as thin as possible not to waste fabric but I think they are too thin to use like this. Thanks for any advice, Sally |
Welcome to the board. I cut mine 2 inches wide total. I have not collected enough to do anything with yet though.

I would think at least 1" wide would be the narrowest (when sewn you would have a 1/2" wide strip) you would need to determine how you want to use them & decide the best width for your project. it seems like 2" would leave an awful lot of (non-salvage) fabric --- if you want your project to show the (salvage strip) measure that strip-then add 1/2" seam allowance.

Thank you, I shall start saving my salvages, I might ask our quilting group to save theirs for me too as I don't think anyone uses them!
