Has anyone ever tried hanging a quilt sandwich to pin? Seems like the fabric would hang smooth. I'm a newby, just asking.

taping it to the wall and spray basting, yes! |
Watterstide, this is exactly what I meant! Does it work well? It appears to. Thanks!

video on how it is done i have done 2 so far this way. all small, around 40 x 50. |
Speaking of sandwiching....I have a flannel pieced top. Iwant to use flannel in the middle and the back. My fabris is not wide enough so I know I will have to put two pieces together for the middle and the back. My concern is 2 seams sandwiched? Will that be a problem?

Seems lilke gravity would work in your favor.

For the piece in the middle for the batting, I would zigzag the edges together, thus avoiding the bulk of a seam. I do the same with regular cotton batting if I have to join pieces together to get the right size. No seam = no bulk. And for the back piece, sew the seams with a slightly smaller stitch length and press the seam(s) open. That should reduce the bulk, and the result will a nice flat, no bumps quilt. Good luck! |
Thanks!

Put one of the seams horizontal, and one of the vertical. you will only have one thick spot in the center :D:D:D

I would have never thought of handing on the wall to baste! What a great idea! Do you hand a plastic sheet or something first to protect the wall from over-spray??? Also, do you spray the backing and then layer the batting or spray the batting on the floor and put it on the backing on the wall? Guess I should watch that video suggested!

Ok-just watched the video-it was great! Now I know how I will baste my snow globe quilt tomorrow! Thanks!!

The problem is, the quilt tends to sway while trying to pin; you need to support if from the back. Even with my long arms (I'm tall), I couldn't reach to the middle of the quilt from both sides. I know your question wasn't about this method but, just in case someone else starting wondering about suspending a quilt in order to pin it, my advice is to find a large wall and use the spray method! |

everything here has stopped, my daughters father in law just passed away. Sarah just dropped off the boys while they headed to her mother in laws. Big Jerry has been sick with bone cancer..they gave him 6 to 9 months, God had other plans..he went in 2 weeks.
Please keep Diane and Jerry (MIL & SIL) in your prayers this evening.. |

Please keep Diane and Jerry (MIL & SIL) in your prayers this evening.. My uncle also had bone cancer. He was in terrible pain for several months, pain that medication couldn't abate. It's hard on the family to be told "months" only to have it turn into weeks but, given my uncle's experience, it's a difficult blessing probably that it was only weeks. <<< hugs >>> to all. |
thank you, that is what i think too.the morphine was not helping him.

This looks good, but I don't have that much empty wall space in my small house. But have been eyeing my shower curtain area....

thank you so much.. While we were at the funeral, they broke into my Daughters home, and stole everything. I mean her husband just buried his father..and to come home to that..it was an awful night last night..house ransacked..tv,computers,the kids gifts, money, checks,Credit cards.. they may be able to steal everything, but they can't take Christmas in the heart..The Birth of Jesus. I was so angry last night..now i am ok, and keeping in mind, it could always have been worse. I told sarah and Jerry to not go crazy today, trying to replace the gifts for family and friends..they all know what happened. so long as the babies are covered, that is all that matters. and off to church we go now... :-) |
Oh my - I pray your family will be abundantly blessed and all their needs be met.
You are so right...material things are just that. May you all find love and comfort being together this holiday season. |
we have..a friend drove 30 miles to bring/replace new piggy banks for the 2 boys..and left gift cards for them all..
another friend came by and brough gently used toys for them. they are not in need of toys..but what wonderful people there are out there..to take time out on christmas eve to bring things to them! we are blessed already..Very Blessed. |
