When I did hand quilting I thread basted. That time is now long past, which is fine with me.

I hand baste using susan schamber's method that is popular by people here. I am working on a king size quilt that i took to church and used some tables in the parish hall. It took about 4 hours to baste it up. .

I have been experimenting with, and using Elmer's washable glue for some time now and have had good luck. This last quilt I decided I would try thinning the glue and using a spray bottle. I can't tell you the ratio but I thinned it with warm water just to the point that it would put out a fine spray. I sprayed the batting and after spraying I ran my hand over it gently just to make sure it was covered. It worked BEAUTIFULLY!!! Try it...you'll like it!!

I don't think this would work for hand quilting. Great for machine quilting, though.

For something that large to be hand quilted, I thread baste.

When I quilt I thread baste. I've never tried pinning or glueing. Everyone raves about the spray basting but I don't think it would hold well on a big project. I do intend to try spray basting on a wall hanging though just to see if it will work.
