Santa quilting panel
1 Attachment(s)
A few years ago I bought the Tom Newsome Santa quilting Christmas cards - they were great. Now there is a panel with that same picture available. So of course I bought one. Now I am wondering what to do with it
has anyone here gotten the panel and is willing to share their ideas? |
I see a wall hanging or a lap quilt surrounded by blocks that are the same as the quilt Santa is sewing. I might have to find that panel.
|
Like MicheleC, I'd say border it up, either as a wall hanging or lap quilt.
Then do some FMQing to outline and enhance the different elements in the picture. This will be a fun project for you to finish up for Christmas this year. ........But if you are having problems as to what to do ... just mail it off to me! :) |
About a month ago Misty Doan from Missouri Star made a panel into a snow globe you might want to check it out.
|
What about a window pane layout, like someone on the outside looking in?
|
Love that panel. I like panels to work with, just add borders that go with the colors and theme, then make the different border pieces and add to the panel. I'm working on a panel quilt right now featuring wild life so am adding pieced borders or whatever I think looks good with the panel. I would post a pix but can't seem to do that anymore. Good luck and be sure to show us your completed quilt when done.

Thanks everyone for your replies - some really good thoughts! I have to finish Halloween before I can get to Christmas ha ha

Here's a link to one on Etsy for $20 (there's another for 14.99 + shipping too)

Oooo! I like the window pane idea, either Jordan Fabrics or Missouri Star quilt has a you tube tutorial.
|
What a darling panel!!! Please be sure to show us what you end up doing with it.
|
There may be a puzzle of this one too. Or Santa doing a puzzle. Can't remember for sure. Cute though!

Meyert, what size are you planning to make? If bed size, I see the books and think of a piano border with fabrics those colors. I also see points in his quilt so any blocks with points such as stars, if you don’t do the exact block like in his quilt, should look good. You can always use smaller borders around the panel to adjust to size you need and wider borders around the outer edges to increase size. More times than not, you loose the border or some of it that frames the original panel, when you square up the panel. If you do then add the same color frame, with your fabrics cutting the widths of frame border the size you need, to make your blocks fit. Also, I have made the side frame slightly wider if I needed to but no more than an inch each side wider than top, so it wouldn’t be too noticeable. I think I started a Panel Album here. I love working with panels. Gets my creativity juices flowing.-lol - I’m sure you probably have thought or know most of this and will come up with your own ideas. You may be making a wall hanging and if so, I’ve talked too much-lol

It's at Quilted Twins for $12. I have always been satisfied with the fabrics I bought and the promptness of receiving my order. I was just looking at this today and thinking about buying it.
|
That is a gorgeous panel. I love the Santa looking like that.

I looked, and found lots of Santas, but not this one. So it might be there, but seems illusive to moi! :) THANKS! |
I love the window pane idea ... peeking in on Santa finishing up Christmas gifts!

Such a beautiful panel. I have done very little with panels and this is no exception. I know what ever you decide is going to be perfect.
|
I've seen these on Pinterest this year. Check it out for ideas.

you ladies - please give me your thoughts. I have only made a quilt from 1 panel. It was this halloween panel just this year. Do you think the log cabin block from border would work on the santa panel? Only red, green and cream
I messed this one up bad and had to cut the panel down - but I do like how the framing worked with the panel |
This just came in an email today. $7.99 a yard by the yard, $3.99 by the bolt
bkay Marshall dry goods |
