Always a problem. This year I asked for certificates for online classes, the quilting weekend in Amish country that is in June (complete with chicken dinner), the metal quilt block scultpures for outdoors and the always welcome gift - certificates to my favorite LQS. Very practical.

My grown children (and their families) and I exchange what we call our Christmas wish list. We put everything from expensive to very cheap...that way there will be something that each family can afford. We started doing this years ago because we hate to waste money on a gift that they may not like when we could buy something that we know they want. With a list of hoped-fors the suprise element of the gifting is still there.
On my list I put several quitling mags I'd like to receive a subscription for, machine quilting thread, schmitz (sp?) needles for the machine, basting spray, one or all of the stencil cd's from Quilt Making magazine, a rolling carrier for ma sewing maching to take to my quilting club, a flannel-backed table cloth so I could make a design wall...several other such things. I started to ask for fabric and/or fq's or charms..but knew they wouldn't have a clue on what to get in that department. I would have liked a gift certificate to the LQS...but they live 4 hours away and the LQS is an hour away from me in a different direction...so that was out. |
I put the Mega hoop on my list plus a mariner's compass embroidery set from Nancy's Notions. My husband and family is awesome when filling my quilting 'wants'!!!
I asked for a new cutting mat and accessories that go with my cookware....already know i got em all...Thank you Santa
I ask for a turntable cutting mat!

I asked for a new sewing machine. I got it a few weeks ago. :) We got it a bit early because we had a chance to buy the store's demo for 200 off and my husband wasn't sure if I would like it new or a demo so he had to ask me which to buy. I said heck yes on the demo. It had the same warranty and I already felt guilty enough that he was spending a thousand dollars on me for Christmas.
Oh and he got me a Viking Tribute 140c. LOVE that machine. |
I am going to ask for some pre-paid classes.
I asked for thread sets and holder, but they usually give me money or gift certificates from my favorite sites.
I just asked for gift certificates so I can chose what I want. So we will see what happens. I really asked for a new sewing machine, but after the laughs I decided that probably was not happening : ) so I switched to something more practical ...

I have been saving all year for the Laura Ashley Innov-is NX-2000 sewing machine by Brother. I was happy to have gotten over half the $ together for it. We were talking about it & why I want it & I mentioned I'd been hoping to have enough money by Christmas or my next bday. DH is waiting on a check to come & then we'll bring it home!!! I'm SO excited!! He said where I'd gotten half of it, he'd do the other half! He also just got me a new camera! I must have been a very good girl this year! :-)
My wish list is easy for my kids to do. I ask for gift certicicates from my LQS. They usually last me the whole year and I enjoy all.
I just found out about the Deb Tucker trimming rulers. They look like they would be fun to have.
Otherwise - I'm fairly well supplied with 'stuff' I might need to take my Pfaff in to the sewing machine doctor - I think something electrical is going bad. |
A lit up seam ripper (my most used sewing tool) and an easy hem tool that is mostly for sewing hems on clothes but will be handy in general, it's metal and you fold the hem over it and iron right on it.
I just want DH to quit finding other things for me to do so I can work on my projects. He's retired...I'm not. I work and crave an evening or preferably a weekend to sit in my pj's and sew from dawn til dusk. I love that he wants us to do things but I love just enjoying my home
I asked for any or all of Bonnie Hunter's quilting books. She just speaks my language!

Tomorrow Santa is bringing a new natural light floor lamp with magnifier to our house. It can go behind my shoulder when I am at the machine, or next to my chair to read or for hand work. In my mind, there is no such thing as too much light when sewing.
I TOLD my husband I wanted a blank check.LOL. I doubt that I get it, but it never hurts to ask does it?
I feel very fortunate as I have been quilting forr over twenty years and have just about every tool available along with quilting supplies. Of coarse I can always use more fabric so I ask for a gift certif. from my favorite quilt shop. I have three Jaome machines, two that emb. and enjoy doing that. Although DH does ask what I would like. He always does, lucky me

As a newbie to quilting, with an extremely well trained husband, I'm hoping for a few small items in my stocking; acrylic rulers and stuff. I already have a rotary cutter and mat and basic sewing things; is there anything else that I should suggest?
My Santa (hubby) bought me my gift a little early, and I'm already enjoying it: A Juki TL2010Q machine!! Bless him!

I know the feeling exactly. So, I buy what I really want for myself and tell them the next things down on the list. :) |
Im hoping for gc for fabric.
what i really want is an embroidery machine. I make stuffed animals for the poor kids, and just found a german site that has faces for a bunch of dolls an animals. Those sacty eyes are expensive. Think how many kids i could make gifts for. |
Hubby and I haven't exchange gifts for years, but this year I went up north to see my ggs being born and after a month of being gone I got a really nice surprise when I got home. He made me a brand new sewing desk all by himself and his very first one. I think I'll keep him around another year or two. P.S. I really love it. I'll send pic when I can finally get them on line.
Santa ordered my mega hoop from Going Batty (LQS). Yippee! Believe it or not, that was the least expensive place he could find it. Even on line was a almost hundred bucks more. Go figure, I thought sure it would be somewhere far away that would take forever to get here. It will be here in a week or so. I am so excited!
Some of these santa gifts would be SO nice to get. I hope you all get lots of wonderful quilting gifts. I think my machines need servicing. Dang it! I hate shelling out that money at this time of year. |

My DH and I are not exchanging gifts; however, I put the accuquilt cutting machine and some dies on my amazon wish list just in case he changes his mind... LOL. otherwise, I will eventually buy them for myself when I see a major sale.

Well, I went Christmas shopping Saturday and it seems the only one I bought for was me. Not quilt stuff, but things I had wanted a long time. While in Walmart looking for some things for the grandkids, I spotted an enameled cast iron dutch oven. I've wanted one for a long time, so I bought it. Then I got home and decided to once again check on line for a KitchenAid stand mixer. I have been looking for a couple of years, so I found the Arteson model on for $349 at Macy's. There was a $30 rebate and they deliver free. But I decided to check locally at Bed Bath & Beyond. They offered the same $349 price, plus the $30 rebate, and I had a coupon for 20% off. I also had $10 left on a gift card, so I was able to buy the mixer for $239.00. I am one happy camper.
Next week I promise to shop for everybody else on my list. |
I have told my children not to get me any gifts..THere are 14 grandkids and they should concentrate on them...If I have any money after Christmas, and moving the end of December, I will splurge and get what I really want..a table to work on. I bet my best gift this year will be from the secret santa exchange, and the smiles on the grandbabies faces
I asked my husband for today's Missouri Star 12 Days of Christmas deal -- a layer cake of light batiks. He can't get out to shop on his own any more so he was happy to oblige and will put the unopened package away when it arrives so it really will be a Christmas surprise.
I asked for the Bernina software version 6 designer plus. I need it for my Bernina quilting frame and Quilt Motion software.
i told my husband exactly what i want and where to get it, and now i'm afraid he has bought it, because i went ahead and ordered one on line, since i didn't think he would get me one. OOOOps!! oh, well. 2 of something good is twice as good as one! and it's on sale now, too! lol, just what i deserve!! pitooey! lololol. can't complain! but if i said i want jewelry it would never happen! i would love a longarm and tutoring to use it. but that will either have to be in my next life or my next husband! this will make only the 2nd time i have rec'd what i asked for. he's a great guy but he honestly believes i already have too much of everything so he can't get past that belief to get me something more. see why i shopped for myself? i asked for the 18" henry doll from pottery barn kids. finding the boy dolls is quite hard as very few lines make them. i have one from about 10 yrs ago, and now it looks like i'll be having twins (dolls, not babies!). i'll name them ben and henry. or ben and jerry? we'll see! 8-)

Love these answers! It is amazing how many women buy thier own gifts. But, like you girls say, then you get exactly what you want/need.
I make an Amazon wish list. It couldn't be easier for them. I also ask for gift cards from my favorite online shops. Works every time!
The way I look at it, might as well ask for it all, will I get it? Nope, but it is fun wishing! :)
I don't ask--------------I buy!
I am very lucky as my wonderful son works in the sewing machine industry
he always comes up with something new for Mum , and usually a Membership to an embroidery site for me , so everytime I "download" I am getting another gift from him .........Wonderful Son |
