Sashiko Fabrics From Japan
I saw an earlier thread on the forum about the Sashiko stitch sewing machine and it got me wondering if anyone uses those beautiful Sashiko indigo fabrics from Japan for their quilts. If so, please post pix. We have a LQS near us that sells these gorgeous fabrics. I'd love to buy them, but I haven't a clue as to how to incorporate them into a pieced quilt.

I just noticed that you haven't gotten any replys on your post. I also have seen those lovely sashiko fabrics but I'm not sure how the quilting vs. sashiko stitching works. There is a LQS a ways from me that has them and the owner was very helpful to explain the stitches, fabrics, etc, but I didn't think to ask about the way to quilt it when done. I think I'll ask her the next time I'm in her shop. If your source is close by, ask the shop owner. She'll know.

I'd love to make a quilt, or even just a duvet cover out of their Sashiko fabrics. I've got to come up with some ideas and designs first. It's too expensive to just fool around with it. ~ Cindy |
I haven't seen any sashiko fabric - just the quilting. I am guessing that it is printed to look like it is sashiko quilted and I think that would be lovely. I am sure it would make a beautiful quilt but it would need a pattern that doesn't cut up the fabric too much. I am thinking that you would also not want the pieces too big, as I think you would want to stitch in the ditch to quilt. If you did FMQ or a pattern over the fabric you wouldn't get the full effect. I am betting it would make a wonderful bag, jacket, etc.
I did some searching and didn't really see too much on the internet- in fact your store was one of the few that came up. The fabrics do look lovely |
